AdminHistory | Dr John A. Hargreaves' research centres on the history of Yorkshire, with particular focus on Halifax and Huddersfield. He has produced a large number of publications covering a variety of aspects of Yorkshire's history.
He was born in Burnley and educated at Burnley Grammar School. He studied for a BA in History at the University of Southampton, and an MA and PhD at the University of Huddersfield.
He was Teacher Fellow in History Education at Trinity and All Saints College and Visiting Research Fellow in History at the University of Huddersfield. He was head of History and Humanities at Howden Clough Girls' High School (later Batley Girls' High School) until 2006.
John took the positions of Co-ordinator for Oral History for the Methodist Church and General Secretary of the Wesley Historical Society. He is a Fellow of the Historical Association, a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
He has been the Secretary and President of the Halifax Antiquarian Society and also Editor of the Transactions of the Halifax Antiquarian Society.
