Title | Roman Coins, Elland Hall Wood |
Description | A hoard of small Roman coins, possibly numbering several hundred and said to have been contained in an earthen vessel. Some dozen of the coins were identified by Watson (1775,) while in his possession, as being of Gallienus, Victorinus, the Tetrici, and Claudius II Gothicus (A. D. 253 273.); also of Carausius (A.D. 289 293.) Found in August or October 1769, within a rock cavity under a stone in Elland Hall Wood. According to Watson, the hoard also contained at least four small clippings or offcuts of copper. Exact find spot unknown; grid ref. centred on Elland Hall Wood. Present location unknown. |
