TitleThornlea Grove
DescriptionA stone axehead found in the garden of 6, Thornlea Grove, Clayton, Bradford, in April 1951 by Brian Elsworth. The address given formerly stood at the quoted grid ref., but the O.S. reported in 1964 that the house had been demolished and the neighbourhood redeveloped. The finder gave the axe to the Cartwright Hall Museum, Keighley (acc. no. NH 43.51). The O.S. card states that the axe is Early Bronze Age, but there is no proof of this. Vol.11 of the Bradford Bulletin states that the axe is probably from the Langdale factory, but that the type of rock 'has not yet been determined' (this perhaps suggests that it was the Museum's intention to get it sectioned).
