Description | Shrunken medieval settlement and adjoining ploughland surviving as earthworks among the houses of the present village of Colton. Excavation in advance of development in 1980 revealed the remains of a single aisled building a type from which later Medieval house forms in West Yorkshire are thought to have developed, but for which there is little or no evidence elsewhere in the county. Unknown no. (assume small) of flints found during excavation; included 1 scraper and 2 pieces debitage. Some held by WYAS. |
