TitleCropmarks of Iron Age/Romano-British Ditched Lane
DescriptionCropmarks of ditched lane running east west (with slight bends) for c.500m. from SE 434 476 to SE 439 476. The lane roughly parallels the modern road leading west from Walton village, a situation remarked elsewhere by D.N. Riley. A number of linear ditches abut the lane on both north and south sides, possibly part of a field system of the type noted elsewhere in the region with major 'land divisions' running at intervals orthogonal to a lane or similar, the 'fields' being conjectured as smaller sub divisions of the large strips so formed.
A short length of a possible second lane (or at least one straight ditch) lies a little to the north at SE 433 478 (WY 144/ 4). Other slight marks in the general area are of such poor quality that the possibility of more features of concern must be entertained.
