Description | An Early Bronze Age contracted burial of an adult male, accompanied by 2 V perforated buttons, a jet ring and flint implement. Found April 23rd 1932 during gravel digging in Inglebank Wood, on the north side of the Tadcaster road. The burial was in a dug grave with no evidence for a barrow. The quarry at the cited grid ref. is derelict. The grave was 4' x 3'.8 with a filling of soft reddish soil and was at least 1' deep, c. 2' below road surface. The skeleton lay on its left side and was described as very contracted with the knees drawn to shoulder level and the feet on a level with the pelvis. The left hand grasped the right forearm, the right hand was on the left shoulder. Bones were in good condition. Grave goods were two V perforated jet button and a jet ring. The flint implement was a transparent flake of black flint which lay by the sole of the left foot. NB.
