Title | Sleepy Lowe |
Description | Sleepy Lowe was thought by the O.S. (survey of 1960) to be a modern cairn overlying an earlier one. Leyland comments that the cairn was once much bigger before he saw it; when he saw it in late 19th century, it was a small conical heap of stones amongst debris. He reports evidence of `primeval interments' nearby. Donald Haigh visited the site in 1994; he states that the site may be archaeological but remains in some doubt. His photograph (see paper file) portrays a large cairn, no doubt built and re built in modern times. See PRN 3981 for flint finds from Sleepy Lowe. |
