Title | Lee Hill |
Description | This is one of 2 barrows marked as tumuli on the O.S. 25 map (no sign of them on 6 first edition sheet 246). The barrows lie SE of the so called `camp' on Lee Hill, much of which is now quarried away. The O.S. field investigator could find no trace of the barrrows when he visited the site on 08/12/1961, and the O.S. updated their record on 10/12/64 to say that the site (presumably that of the camp, PRN 2209) was further reduced by cultivation and was unintelligible. The site was described by REY and MLF in 1975 as being virtually destroyed by quarrying and down to rough grazing. They stated that the plateau on top was flat and that there were no apparent signs of earthworks or quarrying. |
