Title | Geophysical Survey at Grim’s Ditch, Colton |
Description | A geophysical survey was undertaken by WYAS in July 1992 at Grim’s Ditch, Colton in advance of development. The site, centred on the above grid reference, is located to the south of the A63 Selby Road and to the west of Bullerthorpe Lane. Two Geoscan FM36 gradiometers were used to carry out the survey at 0.5m intervals on traverses spaced 1m apart within 20m by 20m square grids. In the north of the survey area, a series of linear anomalies were located which appeared to be associated with archaeological features known to survive to the northwest of the survey area. The southwestern part of the survey area showed evidence of a large amount of disturbance; this was due to the presence of a 17th/18th century brick quarry on the site. |
