Title | Tower Hill |
Description | The only available evidence for this site on Tower Hill is from antiquarian sources (see below); it does not appear to have been investigated by the O.S. The first known reference to the site is by Watson, c. 1775 and later by Crabtree, c. 1836. These antiquarians described two concentric earthworks which were `walled round' and which they identified as a fort. N.B. The `Tower Hill' referred to here should not be confused with `Tower Hill' at Warley (PRN 2295); the two sites were wrongly assumed to be one and the same in the West Yorks. Survey (Faull and Moorhouse, 1981, p.128). Map of 1760 marks a circular feature on Tower Hill; this adds considerable substance to antiquarian reports. |
