Title | Cairn, Walton Road |
Description | A cairn, cut by a hedgerow on the Walton to Wetherby road was excavated in 1859. The cairn had been previously opened and in the hollow at the top were fragments of cremated bones and a piece of bronze. Another cremation was found at the base of the cairn, 1 ft. below natural level. The site is about 1 mile west of Walton church and c. 200 yds. south of the railway. There are no extant remains. n.b. The RCHM (York) record of this find states that it is a barrow rather than a cairn. |
