Title | Oaks Farm |
Description | Site of Skyrack wapentake meeting place is uncertain and by tradition more often associated with 'Shire Oak' in Headingley. Smith (EPNS) points out that the ref. to 'wapentac de Scirakes apud Burcheleia' (t. Ric.I) may refer to Burley in Headingley or to Burley in Wharfedale, and if latter then Oaks Farm (actually in Otley!) is a possible candidate, standing at junction of roads leading to all parts of the wapentake. Oaks Farm not recorded before 1817. Speculative. |
