Description | The site is on lower ground towards the valley bottom and is occupied by playing fields on the modern O.S. map. Although these names were abstracted for the possibilty of some form of earthwork enclosure, it is perhaps more likely that they relate simply to 'field'; other examples, where 'camp' may relate to riverside grassland or meadow, are known (see also PRN 6053 Camp Field in Leeds). Jan. 1994, reported metal detecting find at SE 2167 4555 of a 2nd. century, red and blue enamelled, umbonate brooch, possibly with some silver gilt (finder's description). Finder's report now received with coloured sketch drawing (23/2/1994) Further information (tel. call 2/3/1994, Mr Jackson, same metal detecting club) reporting finds of silver coins (med. and post med.; reported to coroner), Saxo Norman and medieval pottery, rim fragments of bronze cooking vessels, bronze slag and crucible fragments, and kiln debris, all generally in the vicinity of (west and east of?) East Busk Lane. |
