Cliffe House was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1982 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Rural House Survey. The photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS. In the field notes Giles describes Cliffe House as built of stone in the early 19th century and draws attention to the inscribed date stone found in the barn which may refer to the Farrer family. The stone reads:
'I E F
1704'
(Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1982).
