Walshan Cottage was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1981 as part of the WYAS/RCHM Rural House Survey. The photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1981). The brief field work notes are transcribed below: 'Stone house. 17th century with added brick cell, 1743. Stone cell to east, quoined at angles and therefore[?] probably added to timber framed structure. In 1743 this structure was replaced by the brick cell. Outshut to rear with stair with splat baluster'. (Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1981. 'Walshan Cottage'). |
