TitleBenns, Warley
DescriptionBenns, Warley. House with reused 17th century stone door surround.

Benns was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1982 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Rural House Survey. The photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (Giles, C. (WYAS). 1982). The fieldwork notes are brief:
‘Stone house, largely 19th century, but reusing earlier door surround at rear.
Lintel reads:
16 ? 9 ?
I M’
(Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1982. Fieldwork record sheet: 'Benns').
The photographic images depict a door surround with heavy monolithic jambs and a heavy lintel. The lower part of the lintel has a hollow moulding which forms a flattened round arch. Above this is an inscribed border surrounding the inscription (above).
