Description | Eaglescliffe (former Masonic lodge), Warley. Mid 19th century villa and former Masonic Lodge 'SOWERBY BRIDGE BEECH ROAD SE 0423 and SE 0523 (south side) 12/2 Eaglescliffe II House. Mid C19. Coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 5 x 2 bays. Plinth. Early C20 central panelled door and fanlight in moulded round arched surround within Tuscan porch with columns and pilasters supporting cornice and blocking course. 4 pane sashes with stone lintels, panels below ground floor windows and sill band to first floor windows. Eaves band. Moulded cornice. Hipped roof. Stack at eaves to rear right. Gabled C20 addition on left not of special interest. Rear: only 1 storey above road level with door in plain stone surround on right'. (English Heritage listed building description. Eaglecliffe was the subject of a planning application in 2001 for 'Conversion of Masonic Lodge to dwelling including internal and external alterations to reinstate original plan form and opening up of two windows (Listed Building Consent)' (Calderdale Council planning reference number 01/00250/LBC). The architect’s plans produced by the application have been retained by WYAAS (Philip S. Riley and Co. Chartered Surveyors. 2001). It is unclear when the house was converted to a Masonic Lodge. Late 19th century mapping depicts a villa residence and garden (OS 25' 1st edition. c.1894). |
