Description2 to 24 St John's North, Wakefield. Late 18th century high status terraced town house development.

'Early mid C19 terrace of 5 storeys and sunk basement. Red brick with stone dressings. Projecting 5 bay pedimented centre. Modillion cornices to eaves and pediment, ground floor cill band, triple keystones to windows in centrepiece. Gauged flat brick arches and stone cills to sash windows, mostly with glazing bars. Two or three stone steps to 6 panel doors. Doorcases vary: the commonest is a shallow and wide Roman Doric pedimented prostyle porch; some of these are enriched, some hold two doors. Nos 16 and 20 have engaged columns and entablature below wide fanlight. No 2 has a tall prostyle porch and an added first floor oriel. Right return has two 2 storey bays flanking centre bay. Left return similar but with 1st floor Venetian window'.

Nos 4 6 St John's North were the subject of a planning application in 2004 for 'Link between 2 and 4 St Johns North and reinstatement of original division wall between 4 and 6; external alterations' (Wakefield Council planning reference number
04/99/01205/E ). The architect's plans associated with this application have been retained by WYAAS (The Harris Partnership. 2004. 'Proposed office refurbishment. 4/6 St Johns North. Wakefield').

Nos 18 20 St John's North was the subject of a planning application in 2004 for 'Conversion of offices to form 12 residential apartments and basement extension to rear' (Wakefield Council planning reference number 04/99/31458/J). The architect’s plans associated with this application have been retained by WYAAS Peter Thornborrow (Senior Historic Buildings Officer, WYAS) provided the consultation response (Thornborrow, P.H. (WYAS). 2004).
