Title | Geophysical Survey, Red Hall Lane, Whinmoor |
Description | Between December 2011 and January 2012 GSB Prospection Ltd undertook a geophysical survey (magnetic fluxgate gradiometer) on land to the north and south of Red Hall Lane/Skeltons Lane, Whinmoor in advance of redevelopment. The survey area measured c.92hectares but only a 50% sample was surveyed, in a chequerboard pattern. No definitive archaeological anomalies were identified in the survey results. A few anomalies were of possible interest, however they were difficult to interpret due to their isolated nature. The arable fields in the southern half of the survey site were criss crossed with land drains, and this obscured any other responses. Further, severe magnetic disturbance (arising from modern interventions) was present throughout Area 7, also masking any weaker responses. For further details, please see the full report (GSB Prospection, 2012) a copy of which is on file in the HER. |
