Title | Upper Heys, Warley |
Description | Upper Heys, Warley. Laithe house with late 17th century origins. Upper Heys was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1980 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Rural Houses Survey. The photographic image produced by the assessment is held by WYAAS. The brief fieldwork record card describes Upper Heys as a stone house with laithe of late 17th to early 18th century origins with later additions. Two date stones, reused on out buildings, were identified; '1674' and 1716'. The remains of flush splayed mullion windows were aslo identified which supports the early date stone being from the original house. The laithe is aisled; the timber aisle truss survives. It is supported on a heavy post with slender braces up to the arcade plate and tie beam. There is a king post truss with 'V' brace which as possibly of re used timbers as the tie beam has a groove in its soffit for a partition. House was derelict at the time of survey. (Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1980. 'Warley. Upper Heys'). |
