Stock Lane House was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1980 as part of the WYAAS/RCHME Rural Houses Survey. The photographic image produced by the assessment is held by WYAAS. The fieldwork report is transcribed below:
'This is a stone house of the 19th century, incorporating the remains of an earlier house dated 1633. In plan and detail, the present structure is almost entirely of 19th century date, and the plan of this phase has not been recorded.
The earlier remains survive on the south front. Here is a two storey porch built of coursed, well dressed grit stone masonry. The doorway has a decorated surround: the lintel has two semi circles taken out of its lower face, and these are opposed by two raised semi circles above. The lintel is inscribed 'I O A 1633'. A blocked window at first floor level is filled by a sundial dated 1635. Nothing else of the early house survives.
