Title | Spring Mill Fold, Warley |
Description | Spring Mill Fold, Warley. Row of c.1800 mill workers' cottages. Spring Mill Fold was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1980 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Rural Houses Survey. The photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS. The brief fieldwork report describes the terrace as being built c.1800 for local mill. The mill has since been demolished but Giles identified a possible watercourse. (Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1980. 'Warley. Spring Mill Fold'). The mill Giles refers to is Spring Mill (worsted) formerly present at SE 04677 29755 which is 40m to the east of the cottages. This mill was depicted and named on OS mapping of 1849 (OS 6' 1st edition. Sheet 215). The mill was demolished after 1948 (OS 6' 4th edition. Sheet 215). In addition to the mill race, a small building range which was attached to the eastern rear side of the mill also appears to be extant. |
