Title | Owl Nook (Old Nook?), Warley |
Description | Owl Nook, Warley. 19th century laithe and cottage. Now derelict. Owl Nook was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1980 as part of the WYAS/RCHM Rural Houses Survey. The photographic images and field sketch plan produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS. Giles describes Owl Nook as a 19th century laithe of two builds with a small cottage added later at one end. The ruinous condition made recovery of the original plan difficult (Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1980. 'Warley. Owl Nook'). There is no ‘Owl Nook’ at the OS grid reference provided by Giles, there is an ‘Old Nook’, depicted and named in 1849, which has the same building footprint (OS 6' 1st edition. 1849. Sheet 215). Only low level walls survive(https://maps.google.com/. Web site accessed 23/01/2014). These ruins have provided the grid reference presented in this HER record. |
