DescriptionMagson House, Warley. Stone house dated 1854 incorporating the remains of a 17th century house

Magson House was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1980 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Rural Houses Survey. The brief field work report reads:
'Magson House: Stone house, 1854. Incorporates the remains of a 17th century stone house. Some early masonry includes recessed stone mullion windows'.
(Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1980. 'Warley, Magson House').

WYAAS also holds a copy 'History of Magson House' (date and source unknown). The text describes the current house as replacing the 16th century house but with a small portion remaining. 'Magge' was a name from the area which dated back to before the 14th century. The earliest resident of Magson house were the Oldfield family recorded in the Wakefield Court Rolls as early as 1275.
