Greystones was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Colum Giles in 1980 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Rural Houses Survey. The photographic images and sketch plan produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (Giles, C. (WYAS/RCHME). 1980). The fieldwork report is transcribed below: 'This is a stone house, dating probably from the mid 17th century. It is of two storeys, faces south and has a main range with outshut and rear wing. The west wing projects to both north and south, but it is possible that this wing is a later enlargement of an original linear end bay. The south front retains some of its original fenestration. Lighting the central and eastern rooms are windows with recessed splayed mullions; a hood mould with decorated label stops unites the two windows. The first floor windows have splayed mullions flush with the surface of the wall. At the rear the window style is mixed. |
