TitleCroft Mill, Wadsworth
DescriptionCroft Mill, Wadsworth. Mid to late 19th century saw mill/veneer workshop.

Croft Mill, Wadsworth was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Helen Gomersall (WYAAS) in 2005 probably in response to a planning condition; probably Calderdale Council planning reference number
03/01141/CON ('Conversion and extension of existing mill to form twenty apartments and retain two shop units'). The fieldwork record sheet is transcribed below:
'Believed at time of original planning response (July 2003) to have been specialist veneer production workshop of 1860s not clear how this conclusion was reached. Site interior not inspected at that date. Site inspection 2005 revealed well lit, unobstructed work floors (reinforcement at ground floor level may relate to fact that this area originally appeared to comprise an open arcade) with loft/stair case to rear of Albert Street frontage and some very fragmentary evidence for power or steam generation and power transmission at eastern end of building, but no features clearly diagnostic of its postulated original function. Building appears to have been heavily altered (including new roof?) in early 20th century. Only one 19th century window extant, south side of site has seen substantial demolition'.
Gomersall considered the survival of the original interior to be too fragmentary to warrant recording.
(Gomersall, H. (WYAAS). 2005. Fieldwork record sheet: Croft Mill, Albert Street, Hebden Bridge). The photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (Gomersall, H (WYAAS). 2005).

Described as a saw mill c.1894 (OS 25” 1st edition. C.1894).
