Title | Barn at Akroyd (site of), Wadsworth |
Description | Barn at Akroyd (site of), Wadsworth. Stone barn built around 1840. The barn at Akroyd was the subject of a planning application in 1988 for 'Restoration of derelict barn to form two dwellings' (Calderdale Council planning reference number LB/8841/00738). The architect's plans associated with this application have been retained by WYAAS (Moreton Deakin Associates chartered Architects. 1987. 'Refurbishment of existing barn at Akroyd, Pecket Well: Hebden Bridge'). In the consultation response, Peter Thornborrow (WYAS) describes the barn as in a state of almost total collapse. The barn was built c. 1840 of rock faced stone having an arched cart entry to both sides with a cow mistal at either end. Thornborrow considered that due to the state of collapse, the barn would have to be rebuilt and this would constitute a new house in a green belt area of particular scenic beauty. As such, Thornborrow recommended refusal (Thornborrow, P.H. (WYAS). 1988). |
