TitleCliffs and Rock Exposures in Riverside Woods, Boston Spa
DescriptionCadeby (Magnesian) Limestone Cliffs with fossilised algal reefs, designated as a 'Local Geological Site', by West Yorkshire Geology Trust. These include Jackdaw Crag and other rock exposures, some of which are described by BSAHG as 'more accessible than others'. The BSAHG also noted in their 2009 ( p.9) report that the cliffs offered the 'eventually offered the opportunity for people to quarry stone to construct parts of the village' and there are a number of quarry sites recorded by the BSAHG within this rock formation that is beleived to have provided this building stone (see PRN 12764)
The cliffs and rock exposures are included on the Boston Spa Archaeology and Heritage Group's Heritage List which will be incorporated into the Boston Spa Parish Council's Neighbourhood Plan and identified for preservation
