Title | 1, Barnsley Road. Upper Whitley |
Description | 1, Barnsley Road (demolished). Upper Whitley. Single storey miner's cottage, pre 1850. 1, Barnsley Road is depicted on OS Master Map, 2011 but is no longer extant on current on line map resources (https://maps.google.co.uk/. Web site accessed 10/10/2013). The cottage was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Lucy Caffyn in 1982 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Workers' Housing Survey. The photographic image produced by the assessment is held by WYAAS (Caffyn, L. (WYAS/RCHME. 1982). Caffyn describes a single storey stone built cottage situated adjacent to a former colliery; the occupants may have been miners. The cottage had two rooms both heated by a central stack. Entry was straight into one room. (Caffyn, L. (WYAS/RCHME). 1982. '1, Barnsley Road Upper Whitley'). Cottage is depicted in 1851 (OS 1st edition 6' map. Sheet 261). |
