(English Heritage listed building description. Date listed 04/08/1983.http://list.english heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1229407. Web site accessed 10/10/2013).

The barn at Lower Wickins Farm was the subject of a planning application in 2003 for 'Renewal of previous application 98/62/92170/W3 for change of use of barn to dwelling' (Kirklees Council planning reference number 03/62/93465/W3).
In the consultation response, Douglas Moir (Senior Archaeologist. WYAS) drew attention to the fact the building was probably depicted on the OS 1st edition 6' map of 1850 51 [sheet 272] and as such should be regarded a Class III archaeological site as defined in the Kirklees UDP. As such, there are features that merit retention (Moir, D. 2003. Consultation response to Kirklees Council planning reference number 03/62/93465/W3. Barn at Lower Wickins Farm, Upperthong).
The barn is stone built with quoins at the angles (possibly three bays long). The barn has projecting kneelers. In the centre bay of the elevation fronting Wickins Lane is a blocked pedestrian entrance with a single light window above. The barn has an attached single unit cottage extending southern end. There is a four light window with flush and square sills and mullions on the elevation fronting Wickins Lane, possibly to light a workshop (https://maps.google.co.uk/. Web site accessed 10/10/2013).
