9, Tong Lane was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Lucy Caffyn in 1982 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Workers' Housing Survey. The photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (Caffyn, L. (WYAS/RCHME). 1982). The field work report is transcribed below:
'No.9 is a two roomed single storey cottage, which faces approximately south. It is on one side of a farm yard, so was probably occupied by an agricultural worker. It is of stone, with stone quoins, and a stone roof. The roof pits is relatively steep perhaps it was originally a thatched roof? The windows are mullioned with three lights. They have drip moulds. The stone courses are of different widths.
Entry is straight into the living room. Both living room and kitchen are heated and have stone floors and end wall fireplaces. There was a pantry outshut. A third room has been added to the east end.
It may be of 17th century date or else, a revival.... [The former late 18th to early 19th century village school and master's house 60m to the east (see PRN 12811) also features chamfered mullioned windows with drip moulds; this may be a feature of local estate buildings]

No.12 was also described in the report. This is treated as a separate record, see PRN 12820.
