Title | Deep Dale Valley |
Description | The Deepdale Valley, like Holgate Lane (PRN 12749) has been created by glacial meltwater channel. At Deepdale a stream draining fields in the upper valley now runs alongside a holloway track (presumably of Medieval or earlier date) which runs down to the riverside and Jackdaw Crag. within Deepdale valley there is an ancient woodland and managed plantations. There is also an information board at the start of a track on the Archaeology and Geology of the valley produced by Boston Spa Parish Council. The woodland is described by the BSAHG (2013) as mixed in character with the slopes west of the stream being recently (last 100 years) wooded from the steep field portions at the ends of 19th century strip fields. according to the BSAHG the part to the south east of the stream resembles the older woodland on the riverbank. The BSAHG also state that Ancient woodland indicator species suggest that it maintained a level of shading for shade tolerant species to continue growing. Deepdale Valley is on Boston Spa Archaeology and Heritage Group's Heritage List which will be incorporated into the Boston Spa Parish Council's Neighbourhood Plan and identified for preservation |
