Title | Weir West of Thorpe Arch Mill |
Description | Weir across the River Wharfe located between Dam House (PRN 12660) and Thorp Arch Mill. The precise construction date of the weir is unknown, however given that Thorp Arch Mill was constructed in the 17th Century, and the weir was presumably associated with the wter power of the mill, it is possible that the weir could be as early as 17th century. The weir runs obliquely at a 45 degree angle downstream to funnel the main force of the water to the mill. According to the BSAHG the weir was repaired in the 1920s. The weir is part of the Boston Spa Archaeology and Heritage Group's Heritage List which will be incorporated into the Boston Spa Parish Council's Neighbourhood Plan and identified for preservation |
