No.21 St John's Square was the subject of planning application in 2004 for 'Erection of a timber gate to rear arch' (Wakefield Council planning reference number 04/99/34968/D). Peter Thornborrow (Senior Historic Buildings Adviser. WYAS) provided the consultation response.
Thornborrow considered this building to be a fine late Georgian three storey terrace fronting St John's Square. At the rear is a small yard bounded by a brick wall with a tall (possibly) contemporary segmental arched opening of sufficient size to permit a horse and carriage to enter the yard.
Thornborrow approved of the scheme, making a few design suggestions for the new gates (Thornborrow, P.H. (WYAS). 2004).
