Description | Lucy Caffyn visited 3 Long Row in 1982 as part of the Workers' Housing Survey. The following notes were made during the visit: Brick (stretcher bond and occasional row of headers). Slate roof. Windows sash and stone cills and lintels. Doors, fanlight and stone lintel. Extension at rear of bathroom and pantry c1962 meant changing position of rear entry (used to be next to stairs). Coal cellar below area of kitchen (1.9m long and whole width of house) with two little alcoves in back wall 45cm wide and 55cm highx60cm deep. Stairs to cellar and house in stone and brick. Moulded skirting board in living room. Cupborad next to fire in kitchen. Three flues per house. No rear yard or front garden. W.C.'s in groups of 6 or 8 and 2 rows of 3/4 facing each other. No's 30 43 in this row were originally back to backs, the front dwelling having 2 bedrooms over living room, the rear dwelling having only 1 bedroom.
