Description | Well head. Possibly medieval WYAAS holds a small archive relating to the medieval well head discovered in the grounds of the Wakefield police headquarters c.1997: The site was archaeologically assessed by WYAS in 1997, the photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (WYAS. 1997). The City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council Transport and Engineering Department Design Services produced a reconstruction of the well head which indicated the council's proposals for the well head. The images depicts a circular shaft c.1.5m diameter. The top c.2m of the shaft is stone lined. The photographic images also depict a stone rubble wall. An oak lid and winding mechanism is also depicted (CWMDC Transport and Engineering Department Design Services. 1997).
