Description | Magistrates Court, Cliff Parade, Wakefield. 'Including No 26 King Street. Later C19 restoration of an early C19 building which stretches back to Gill Street then returns southwards with extensions to King Street. Main front of 2 storeys, 7 windows. Ashlar with banded ground floor, lst floor cill string; top entablature with bracketed cornice and blocking course. Sash windows have moulded lintels on 1st floor and architraves below, both under console bracketed cornices. Pattern of chains in ground floor friezes. Ornamental doorway has keystone with mask: a bearded police officer of stern yet benign aspect wearing a traditional helmet'. (English Heritage listed building description. The Magistrates Court was the subject of a planning application in 1992 for 'Proposed refurbishment of Court Room 1. New ventilation system. Peter Thornborrow (Historic Buildings Officer, WYAS), who provided the consultation response had no objection to the scheme providing there was the right of access to the building to make photographic and drawn records prior to its closure and alteration (Thornborrow, P.H.
