No.6, Foster Clough was the subject of a planning application in 1988 to 'demolish an outbuilding within the curtilage of a listed building' (Calderdale Council planning reference number LB/88/43/01318).
Peter Thornborrow (Historic Buildings Officer. WYAS) provided the consultation response. Thornborrow described the affected outbuilding as an early 19th century double door privy and/or coal house constructed of roughly dressed grit stone with a stone slate roof. Thornborrow considered that, in general, out buildings should be preserved as they represent part of our social history. This outbuilding, however, was isolated, very small and did not provide useful accommodation; demolition was considered acceptable (Thornborrow, P.H. (WYAS). 1988).
Probably at around the same time, Thornborrow made an archaeological assessment of the cottages. The photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (Thornborrow, P.H. (WYAS). 1988. ‘Wadsworth. Foster Clough Cottages, Height Road’).
