Title | Little Pavilion, Hardcastle Crags, Wadsworth |
Description | Little Pavilion, Hardcastle Crags, Wadsworth. Little Pavilion at Hardcastle Crags was the subject of a National Trust Vernacular Buildings Survey in 1993. The report describes the pavilion as a single storey framed house with vertical weather boarding. It displays a number of details characteristic of late 19th to early 20th century mass production and prefabrication. These include the bargeboards, gutter brackets, doors and windows. These are a remnant of Hardcastle Crag’s early 20th century tourist industry. It probably has its origins as a pavilion or chalet at this, and is the last extant building of this style and period on the property. Also it was used for catering in the 1920s and 1930s. It has a certain aesthetic value. The report provides further construction details and a history of the site. Several other structures are described in the survey report: a single storey stone building with flag stone roof which was used as an oil store associated with the 19th century Gibson Mill (PRN 12867), foundations of stables, the remains of workers' cottages and a mid 20th century privy.
