TitleBarn Attached to Redacre House, Wadsworth
DescriptionBarn attached to Redacre House, Wadsworth. Pre 1850 barn.

The barn attached to Redacre House was the subject of a planning application in 2001 for the 'Conversion of barn to form dwelling' (Calderdale Council planning reference number 01/43/00173). Douglas Moir (Senior Archaeological Officer, WYAS) provided the consultation response. Moir identified the barn on the OS 1st 6' edition map of 1850 (sheet 230). As the proposed development would alter, damage or obscure elements of the historic building fabric which are important in understanding the nature and function of the structure, Moir, while not objecting to the principal of the development, considered that the barn should be the subject of a photographic record (Moir, D. (WYAS). 2001. Consultation response to Calderdale Council planning reference number 01/43/00173. Redacre Barn, Redacre House). The architect's plans associated with this application have been retained by WYAAS (Deakin Designs Associates. 2000. Conversion of barn, Redacre, Mytholmroyd).
The plans depict a barn built probably built of stone attached to the north eastern end of Redacre House forming a linear plan. The principal elevation faces south west. The rear has been extended by a single storey lean to extension and garage. The barn is five bays long. The tall arched cart entrance is centrally placed in the middle bay of the front elevation. Above this is a three light Venetian window. Against the gable wall of the first (northern) bay is a pedestrian entrance which probably entered a mistal area. Whether this was opposed at the other end of the elevation, as is frequently the case, is not clear due to the insertion of a later double entrance. The arrangement of openings on the front is mirrored, at least in part, on the original rear elevation. The gable wall has three arched owl holes in the apex (Lunn, K.R. (WYAAS). 2013. Description of Redacre Barn based on architect's plans. Description found in digital record only and not on file at WYAAS).

Redacre House is the subject of a separate HER record (see PRN 12865)
