The attached barn south of Broad Bottom Farm was the subject of an archaeological assessment by Elizabeth Chamberlin (WYAAS) in 2008. This was undertaken as part of a consultation response to a planning application for 'Conversion of attached barn to residential dwelling and detached garage, including use of artificial stone slates (Listed building Consent) ' (Calderdale Council planning reference number 07/01350/LBC). The fieldwork report and photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (Chamberlin, E. (WYAAS). 2008).
In the resulting fieldwork report Chamberlin describes the farmhouse as an early 18th century encasing of a timber framed house. The attached barn replaces an earlier barn and contains a date stone with the text 'Rebuilt 1897 J S T'. The barn has a central arched cart entry with Venetian style window above, the lintel of which incorporates the date stone. To either side of the cart entry are two doorways to what would have led to mistals at either end. The interior has been stripped of all partitions and the floor has been dug up. The interior north west gable of the barn contains evidence of a 'fossilised' roof line with a blocked central opening in the apex and a blocked three light mullioned window. There is also a blocked opening at ground level between the farmhouse and the barn.
Chamberlin later produced a specification for building record of the barn. A drawn and photographic record which identified and documented items of archaeological interest was required prior to conversion, specifically those relating to the form and function of the barn and its relationship to the attached barn and any evidence of the form of the pre 1987 barn which it replaced (Chamberlin, E. (WYAAS). 2008. Specification for building recording. Attached barn at Broad Bottom Farm, Hawks Clough, Mytholmroyd).

The barn was the subject of an archaeological building recording by Stephen Haigh (Buildings Archaeologist) in 2008 in accordance with the specification set by Elizabeth Chamberlin (above). The field work report which contains annotated drawings and the photographic images produced by the assessment are held by WYAAS (Haigh, S. 2008).
The report provides a description of the historical background and architectural interest of the barn
