DescriptionCockley Cote and Barn, Slaithwaite (SE 06086 14840). Late 18th century farm terrace and barn.

'Late C18 (possible earlier origin). Farm terrace. Hammer dressed stone. Quoins. Pitched stone slate roof. Coped gable to south west (barn). 2 storeys. South East elevation: No.1: Ground floor; One 4 light stone mullioned window (double lintel). One single light. First floor; One former 6 light now two 2 light stone mullioned windows (2 lights blocked). No.2: Ground floor; Entrance with stone surround. One 4 light stone mullioned window (double lintel). First floor; Former 6 light stone mullioned window (2 lights blocked) (millstone grit surrounds). No.3: Ground floor; One 6 light stone mullioned window. First floor; One 6 light stone mullioned window. One 2 light stone mullioned window. Part is recessed and has: Ground floor; Entrance with stone surrounds. Windows frames have rounded heads. One 2 light stone mullioned window. Barn: Entrance with stone surrounds (later). Entrance with stone surrounds and tie stones. Small false arch with datestone: 1802 JBH. North West elevation: Ground floor; Two 2 light stone mullioned windows. Modern extension to No. 2. First floor; Two 3 light stone mullioned windows (one with chamfered surrounds and recessed mullions).'

No.2 Cockley Cote was the subject of a planning application in 2001 for 'Listed building consent to form first floor extension, recladding existing extension and internal alterations' (Kirklees Metropolitan Council Planning Services application number 2001/65/92057/W1). As part of the planning condition a photographic record was made of the external and internal details of the property (Farrar Bamforth Associates LTD. '2001. 2 Cockley Cote, Laund Road, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield (various views and elevations)'. The images are held by WYAAS.
