Title39-79 Savile Park Street, Halifax
DescriptionMid to late 19th century terraced row, Savile Park (SE 08435 24131)

This terraced row was identified and photographically recorded by L. Caffyn in 1982 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Workers' Housing Survey. The photographic images are held by WYAAS.
The images depict a long row of terraced houses in an north south alignment. These are two storey and built of coursed sandstone with a Welsh slate roof. The two end houses and every fifth terraced house has a gabled front and rear (five in all). They are probably through terraces with a two unit plan with a door and long rectangular window on the ground floor and two long rectangular windows on the 1st floor. The windows have plain square cills and lintels. The front doors of each house has a small projecting canopy supported on moulded brackets. The front gabled houses are slightly higher status with a two light window on the ground floor and a small 2nd floor window lighting a gable attic room. The houses have a small front garden and a slightly longer back garden.
The houses first make an appearance on late 19th century OS mapping (OS 6' 2nd edition. c.1894. Sheet 231) and probably present the 'improved' through terraced houses being constructed en mass in this area of Halifax in the mid to late 19th century providing inexpensive two or three bedroom accommodation.
