Flat Head was the subject of an archaeological assessment in c.1981 by Colum Giles probably as part of the WYAS/RCHME Rural Houses Survey. The photographic images made by the assessment are also included on a RCHME monument record form regarding Flat Head and of the same year. Both are held by WYAAS archives. The record also contains a photographic image of the barn at Flat Head. The barn is treated as a separate record. See PRN 12367.
