Title118 Agbrigg Road, Wakefield
Description118 Agbrigg Road was visited by Lucy Caffyn in 1982 as part of the RCHME's Worker's Housing Survey. Although not mentioned in the subsequent publication, the following notes were made during the visit;
This is in a row of 6 facing north. There is a brickworks about 200 yards south and Walton Colliery, about half a mile away, was working in the early 20th century; so they may well have been occupied by people employed at one of these.
They are brick with a thin slate roof. The cills have a simple chamfer; the lintels have a simple chamfer with a central 'pendant'. The door has a stone lintel and fanlight and 2 brick, stone topped steps. At the rear the windows have stone cills but brick voussoirs. At the front there is brick decoration in the form of a row of headers below the eaves which have sunken orbs inscribed and below these a row of dogtooth. The windows are large.
Entry is straight into the living room (at the front) and kitchen (at the rear). Above are 2 bedrooms. All 4 rooms were heated and had simply moulded skirting boards. The living room has a cornice. The ceiling is high (2.78m). The kitchen has a stone floor (it had a range). There is a cellar (steps under the stairs, with access from the kitchen) which runs under the living room. There is a coal hole in front of the steps leading to the front door. Floorboards are tongued and grooved. The loft runs over the whole row. The roof has a plank ridge and 4 purlins, supported on the brickwork of the chimney stacks. The common rafters which rest on these purlins are about 24' apart, All timbers are straight and sawn.
There is a small front yard (about 2m long) and a very long back garden, about 16m long with an outside WC.

A copy of the above information including drawn floorplans and photographs is held at the offices of West Yorkshire HER.
