Title | Copley Hall, Skircoat |
Description | Site of Copley Hall (SE 08710 22520), site of antiquity described on OS mapping of 1850 (OS 6' 1st edition. 1850. Sheet 231). Copley Hall is depicted and named on the Skircoat township plan of 1838 (Plan of the Township of Skircoat in the Parish of Halifax and West Riding of the County of York. 1838). The mapping depicts a linear range with a north south axis approximately 35m long. Plan resembles a laithe or linear planned yeoman's hall farm with house and attached barn/shippons typical of the West Yorkshire Pennine region. Date undeterminable from mapping but OS 6' 1st edition map of 1850 (sheet 231) describes this as a site of antiquity. Possibly a former yeoman's house of the 17th to 18th century. Site redeveloped with housing after 1948 (OS 6' 4th edition. 1948. Sheet 231). |
