Title | WW2 Air Raid Shelters, Former Keighley College |
Description | WW2 underground air raid shelters, located underneath the car park at the former Keighley College/Boys Grammar School (PRN 10393). Discovered by Bradford Council during the demolition of a 20th century boiler house in May 2013. A basic photographic record was made by the council (copies of photographs and drawn ground plans on file in the HER) prior to the shelters being walled up, leaving the remains undisturbed. It is thought that the shelters may have been constructed c.1939/1940. There are apparently air raid shelters located under the roundabout at the bottom of Oakworth Road and another shelter known to be under Town Hall Square, where the main Keighley War Memorial is (pers comm Andy Wade, Keighley and District Local History Society, 2013). |
