Web site accessed 01/05/2013). Lower Edge Farm has a separate English Heritage listed building designation for the cross wing at the eastern end of the range; being older in date (mid 17th century) and considered separate (EHUID 340849). The cross wing was surveyed by Colum Giles in 1979 as part of the WYAS/RCHME Rural Houses Survey. Giles's description is pertinent to this building as it details a history of the range's development and includes elements relating to this site. See PRN12183. Lower Edge Farm was the subject of planning application in February 2001 for listed building consent for 'change of use and alterations to barn, to extend existing dwelling, and extension to the barn' (Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council planning reference number: 2001/65/90447/W3. Consent granted). Peter Thornborrow (Senior Historic Buildings Officer, WYAS) provided the consultation response. Although the adjacent barn merited a brief description, Thornborrow was particularly concerned with the 17th century hall and cross wing house element. Thornborrow described the barn as having circular pitching holes and a tall cart entry with impost and keystone and probably dating from the early 19th century (c.1810 20) and had a Regency feel. An archaeological condition was placed on the earlier house wing with no mention of the barn. Also see PRN12183. (Thornborrow, P.H. 2001.
