Description | St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Newland Lane, was built in the 19th century of red brick with a slate roof. It is 6 bays long with a pentagonal apse on the eastern end. To the north and south are aisles and in the west is a tower. The Wakefield Road elevation (north) contains 7 bays. The 1st and 6th bays from the right are tall with intersecting tracery, trefoil windows and gothic arches. Bays 2, 3, 4 and 5 meanwhile, are roughly half the size with trefoil surrounds. To the right is the vestry with 2, 2 light windows flanking a 6 light mullioned window. The church is included in the Local Buildings List (2008) for Wakefield. |
