TitleWhite Wells Filter Station
DescriptionWhite Wells filter house was built in the early 20th century, and is a single storey building with an internal balcony. The structure is of stone with reinforced concrete to the interior and steel roof members. The filter station was originally constructed to serve the adjacent Ilkley UDC Reservoir.
The building was visited by Helen Gomersall (WYAAS) in 2007 and it noted that although the processing machinery has been stripped out, the building survives in a good approximation of its original condition and the interior retains sufficient physical evidence to permit position and nature of the original and subsequent installation to be deduced, making the building of regional archaeological interest (Gomersall, 2007).
Further to the aforementioned field visit, and prior to re development ARCUS were commissioned to undertake a programme of archaeological building recording during July 2007. This comprised of a full photographic record of the building and a detailed measured survey comprising of floor plans and cross sections (ARCUS, 2008). A copy of their report and photographs is on file at West Yorkshire HER.
